Senior Boys Capture ISA Gold
This weekend, six teams set foot in Brentwood’s Woodward Sportsplex to display their ability in the Senior Boys Basketball ISA Tournament.
Brentwood and West Point Grey Academy kicked off the tournament with a tip-off at 1:45 pm sharp Friday. With excitement in the air, Brentwood got the best of WPGA with a 63-26 win sending us to the semifinals. Salman K helped capture this win with his defensive efforts and was rightfully awarded Player of the Game.
After stretching and getting food in our bellies, we stepped back in the gym for our second game in the tournament. Our boys came out on top winning comfortably with the final score 92-37. Nathan P scored 17 points and Ender M was awarded Player of the Game for showing off his shooting ability in the 4th quarter with five straight mid-range jumpers.
Capturing a spot in the finals meant our boys had a tough matchup ahead. As we warmed up, we did not know exactly what to expect. A crowd composed of both Brentwood and Shawinigan supporters were ready for an early pre-Showcase game.
Shawinigan came out firing and jumped to an aggressive 12-2 lead, but our boys battled back with grit. With five seconds left in the game, Coach Gage called a timeout with Brentwood down by 3. He drew up the play, and the ball was inbounded. With two seconds left, Joe S sunk the game-tying shot to send it to overtime.
The crowd was electric at that point and everyone was on their feet. Aaron S dominated the floor in OT and came up with a couple of 3 pointers. As the final buzzer went, Brentwood came out on top with a 73-70 OT win. Crowned ISA champions, the team was ecstatic after the nail-biting finish. Aaron was awarded Player of the Game and this was well deserved as he was a fearless competitor throughout the tournament.
This was an awesome game to close out the ISA Sr. Boy’s Tournament, and an impressive way to start the season.
