Dr. Elizabeth MacIsaac
Dr. Elizabeth MacIsaac enjoys a dual career as conductor and singer. Recipient of a Doctorate in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington in 2018, she has directed choirs of all ages in Canada, Europe and the USA. She is artistic director for Ensemble Laude and Lumina (Victoria) and regularly teaches choral pedagogy at UVic. MacIsaac is active in commissioning new works and leads a conducting apprenticeship programme for young choral conductors.
MacIsaac lived for many years in France, sustaining an active schedule as a teacher and performing artist. Upon her return to Canada, she co-founded the chamber ensemble Continuum Consort and launched several community choirs while continuing to tour to Europe in the summers.
MacIsaac’s diverse conducting history spans the many eras of early music, classical chamber repertoire, jazz, folk and avant-garde experimental music. A presenter and performer at choral and vocal conferences each year, and an active adjudicator and clinician, MacIsaac is grateful for the power of song to uplift us and build community.
