Taiwan: Spring Break 2024

The spring break trip to Taiwan is the first time that Brentwood is offering a trip to Asia! It is a cultural and language trip for Brentwood students who are interested in either practicing Mandarin, learning about Chinese and Taiwanese cultures, or exploring the other side of the world. Over the course of 10 days, we will visit a Taiwanese high school for cultural and language exchange, experience Taiwanese Indigenous and Hakka lifestyles, make traditional Taiwanese cuisine and pastry, explore the outdoors through hiking and kayaking, and check out the world-famous night market.

Day 1 – Friday, March 8, 2024

  • Breakfast and lunch at on campus at Brentwood

  • Bus transfer from Brentwood College School to the Victoria Airport

  • Transfer from Victoria Airport (YYJ) to Vancouver Airport (YVR)

Day 2 – Saturday, March 9, 2024

  • Depart Vancouver for Taiwan at 2 am (a 12-hour flight) 

  • Complimentary dinner and breakfast on the airplane

Day 3 – Sunday, March 10, 2024

  • Arrive in Taiwan at 5 am Taiwan time (GMT +8) 

  • Charter bus

  • Briefing with trip educators

  • Watch the changing guard presentation at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall 

  • Visit Long Shan Temple,  Rongjin Gorgeous Time, and the Presidential Office Building

  • Team building activities 

  • Return to hotel; lights out

Day 4 – Monday, March 11, 2024

  • Local experience: taking MRT (subway) and bus to school 

  • Visit Taibei Bilingual School 

    • What is it like being a high school student in Taiwan? 

    • Brentwood students to be partnered with local students for the day

    • Cultural and language exchange 

  • Karaoke after school! 

  • Return to hotel; lights out

  • Explore Taipei like a local—use public transit today (MRT & Bus) 

  • National Palace Museum

  • The Grand Hotel underground tour

  • Elephant Mountain

  • Indigenous Cultural Experience

    • Visit Atayal Tribe in Yilan, Taiwan

    • Opportunity to try on Indigenous dress

    • Learn about Indigenous culture, language, songs, and dance

    • Guided tour of the Indigenous reserve 

    • Learn to make your own Indigenous food

    • Learn to hunt 

      • Ritual before entering the mountain

      • How to set up traps 

      • Learn about your environment and surroundings

      • Archery 

  • Return to hotel; lights out

    • Make your own Hakka Lei Tea (Leicha) and Hakka mochi in the local tea house
