Yoga in the Wilderness
New covid precautions are being taken on Brentwood’s campus: consequently, we have taken our sports to the outdoors. This includes the yoga program, so our teachers have gotten creative. Ms Cusi, our yoga instructor, brought a peaceful and meditative spin to her class.
This yoga class has been an extremely rewarding experience so far, but one of the best parts about it is that we get to do it in the breathtaking outdoors of Mill Bay. Our class has practiced a variety of yoga poses in the classes leading up to our nature walk, such as balancing poses, poses on different levels such as standing and sitting, flow yoga, and many more practices focused primarily on our breath.
This has opened us up to brand new skill sets of flexibility and mindfulness that we take with us wherever we go. Our walk was truly stunning as we were able to take in the elements of nature that stood out to us most. Off the coast of the beautiful bay, we got to take a look further into elements of nature and combine them with some meditative and stress-relieving poses.
Whether it was how the light hit the water in a dazzling array of reflective colours, or a beautiful coniferous tree branch along the shoreline, we were able to observe the contrast and details of each component from a relaxed and optimistic perspective, opening us up to a more enriched mindset than we’ve had before. We can honestly say that we will never see nature the same, and our minds have been changed for the better.
