The Crusade Continues

Two conflicting powers struggle for supremacy; it is a battle that has raged on for decades. It’s a rivalry that spans the years since Brentwood reopened and moved to Mill Bay. Separated only by a bus ride of a few minutes, Brentwood and neighboring Shawnigan Lake School continued their battle for sporting success with the annual basketball showcase games this past fortnight.

The Senior Boys and Girls Basketball teams competed against Shawnigan in their annual showcase games, lending an atmosphere of tension, excitement and competition to the Brentwood campus.

The buses began to roll into Brentwood at about 6:15 for the Senior Boys Showcase game, bearing busloads of Shawnigan supporters decked out in vibrant shades of black and gold. They eagerly made their way to the Woodwards Sportsplex to be met by a roaring crowd of black and red, as Brentwood amassed a huge turnout to support their home team.

Tipoff was met with a roar of sound and applause, with the crowds competing to see who could show the most encouragement for their team. After an intense first half, Brentwood was leading, filling the air with suspense and anticipation. Shawnigan put up a fierce fight, but our Brentwood boys hung on for the victory.

On Tuesday the Senior Girls also faced off against their Shawnigan rivals in a highly anticipated game. On their home turf, the girls went out hard and played a great game of basketball for Brentwood supporters in the stands. After a hard fought match, the girls couldn’t quite get the edge on their Shawnigan rivals.

The two teams would like to thank all the supporters who came out to watch, and look forward to a continued relationship of healthy competition with our neighbors at SLS. Thanks also go to the Shawnigan teams who travelled to Brentwood for their games. As Mr Patel says. “We’re lucky to have competition so close by!”
