Sunday Skiing

9 February 2013

As the wind ripped through my hair, I felt a rush that only comes when traveling at high speeds on two slivers of plastic and metal. With the sun shining and a plus 8 C, it was a good day to be out skiing. There must have been a lot of other people who thought the same thing; it was busy day on the slopes.

Every Sunday from January until March, Brentwood students have the opportunity to get up early and head to Mount Washington Alpine Resort. It was an early start as the bus leaves at 6 o’clock sharp, but I am sure with conditions like this, and hopefully more in the coming weekends, they will be glad they got motivated to get up.

Joe K got up at 5:00 for breakfast and arrived at the hill ready to go. He enjoyed coasting coolly down Coaster; in fact, he said it was his favourite run of the day.

In the morning, the snow was icy, but as the day progressed, it warmed up making conditions easier and the day very enjoyable. People were skiing in nothing but t-shirts and pants, not what one would expect in January. From the chair lift, as I was looking over my shoulder, the clouds made a fluffy blanket and it looked like I could walk out onto the clouds.

It is sights and feelings like this one that motivate me and many others, to get up early. A huge thank you to all the staff such as Mr. Flynn, Mrs. May, Mr. Amiel and the teaching interns that make these Sundays happen.
