The air fills with anticipation at Brentwood, as the Musical Theatre students kick it into high gear to prepare to present Mean Girls: The Musical. Though the second term is known for chilly weather, minimal sunlight (thought this January is the driest and sunniest in 40 years) and a rigorous assessment week, it is also that special time of the year when the Musical Theatre program works non-stop with its eyes on the prize; to perform a Brentwood-quality production for the community.

This year, we were lucky enough to be tasked with performing the ultra-fabulous Mean Girls: The Musical. This Broadway show is extremely well known for its popularity as a hit 2000s movie. As a cast, we were so excited to be allowed to produce something as entertaining and iconic as this show. Kerrington G, Hope ‘26, who plays Regina George says “I am so thrilled to be able to do this show in my time at Brentwood. Mean Girls is such an iconic movie so when it transitioned to being a Broadway show, I dreamt of taking part in it”.

Our creativel team – Ms Widenmaier, Ms Smith, Ms Staples, and Mr Newns – has been working nonstop alongside the talented Theatre Pro students to help cast members’ progress on our journey together in making this show a top-notch production. Head of Dance and Musical Theatre choreographer Ms Staples says “This is such a dynamic show that blends acting scenes and dance numbers. Though it was challenging for the cast to grasp the transitions from one scene to the next, I am so proud of how far we’ve come as a team”.

As show week nears - 30 days to opening night on Feb. 26 - we have many things to check off of our to-do list: tech and dress rehearsals, orchestra week, and makeup workshops. If the cast knows anything, however, it’s how fast time flies when you’re having fun. Co-Musical Captain Cole K, Whittall ‘25, says “It’s truly been a grind to get this show into being stage ready. Though we still have a bit of a way to go, I am so pleased with the cast and their hard work, attention to detail, and the enthusiasm they bring to rehearsals. To be surrounded by talented performers, but also amazing humans, is the true gift of the Musical Theatre program”.

We look forward to seeing the Brentwood community in the audience from February 26th to March 1st - to be taken back to the golden days of high school. Wear your best and brightest pink!
