Senior Boys Rugby

31 May 2015
Mr. Shane Thompson, Head Coach
The Senior Boys Rugby season was all about committing to the program, being part of a team, and strengthening, both on and off field, good habits in order to improve the results on the field. This wasn’t going happen overnight; it was a process throughout practice during both the fall and the rain-soaked winter term up on B Field. It wasn’t until the arrival of the spring, which brought much better weather, exhibition games, and the tour to Buenos Aires, Argentina, that we saw a significant change in how the athletes approached the game and how powerful being a positive member of a team could be. The competitive season started off with 36 boys giving up their March Break and taking an exciting fourteen-day tour of Argentina. The team travelled in and out of San Antonio De Areco, Rosario, and Tandil often hosted by local families and experiencing a new way of life. Although friends off the field, the team was tested physically against five very good teams who demonstrated an exciting wide-open style of rugby. The tour was a very positive experience for all and by the end they were ready to take on both AAA & AA schools in BC.         The 2015 season had plenty of ups and downs. The senior boys had wins vs. Glen Eagle, Claremont, Kelsey, and touring sides Crescent Heights and Rundle College from Alberta, but tough losses vs. Oak Bay, SLS, St. George’s and SMUS. Another highlight for the 2015 season was qualifying and participating in the 7’s Provincial Championships where a very committed group finished top 8 in BC. After the regular season, the boys were ranked 8th in the AA league standings which drew a final home game vs. 9th ranked G.W Poppy before heading to the 15’s Provincial championships in Abbotsford. In a hard-fought contest, our lads prevailed 26-19. Mr. Shane Thompson, Head Coach
