Pre-season rankings were released and, as a team, we took the disrespect as fuel to our fire. Entering the lion’s den for our first game may have proven the rankings correct, as we got crushed in our first few games against two top-10 teams. However, some time away from the campus and some success on the Mainland at the No Regrets Tournament brought us together and proved to ourselves that we belonged.

In practices, intensity rose and we continued to take steps forward after winter break. Heading to Claremont and going 2-1 against good competition prepared us for the prestigious Victoria Police Tournament where we showcased our improvement, reaching the final and conceding a tightly-contested game to the same Lambrick team that beat us earlier in the year.

We headed three hours north to Kwalikum for the North Island Playoffs. After beating our first-round opponent, we played an important game against John Barsby that would set us up for the Islands. With the win, we advanced to Islands with the #1 seed.

After taking care of business in our Showcase against St. Andrew’s, we headed onto the semi-final and a chance to qualify for Provincials. After losing the 2nd quarter against SMUS, we bounced back and took over 3rd in the usual Brentwood fashion, earning ourselves a birth to Provincials. In the final, we had to meet Barsby for the fifth time in two years. All there is to say is 5-0.

With the Island Championship under our belt, we were granted the 4th seed going into provincials and, as a team from the Island, we once again felt like the underdogs. After finding our footing in the 3rd quarter in our first game, we marched through the rest of the tournament and onto the Final with a chip on our shoulder from last year. Although the result wasn’t what we had hoped, everyone will look back on this season and be proud of it. We did earn Silver at Provies.

Special thank you to the other 12s: Taylor E, Zach H & Bern M and our coaches.
