Open Gym For Certified Brentonians
On October 13, 2021, for the first time in the past three years, the Foote Center was opened to all students from 6am and 7pm on weekdays. The gym hasn’t just been opened to anyone, however. It's only been opened up to certified Brentonians.
What is a certified Brentonain?
A certified Brentonian, in terms of the Foote Center gym, is someone who has passed the physical assessment as well as the run through of all safety measures about what and what not to do. For most regular gym users, the assessment can be a breeze. However, for people who are newer to the gym, it could take some time and extra focus.
Since COVID-19, Brentwood has been unable to open up the gym freely to users because of many things, including gym capacity, sanitization, and safety. One of the major rules that is heavily emphasized during the safety run through is the sanitization policy: students must always sanitize all and any equipment that has been touched including the bar rack and bench. Brentwood is taking this extra precaution because the gym is a very meaningful place for many members of the Brentwood community and seeing it closed would be devastating. Going to the gym could be just as stress-relieving as a good nap or break from all the positive chaos that takes place around campus. Brentwood’s gym is as nice as it gets.
Buchannon F, Rogers ‘22, says “Before Brentwood, I didn't go to the gym too much but over the past couple of years I've come to realize that we have one of the nicest high school gyms in Canada, so I've started to take advantage.” Steven G, Rogers ‘22 also had something similar to say: “I definitely feel that the Brentwood gym makes me want to go more. It’s just such a nice gym and it's definitely going to be something I miss when I graduate.”
It’s great that the gym has opened up at almost all times. It’s finally giving students the opportunity to bend their schedules and free up time to take care of their bodies and improve their fitness. Soon enough, the athletes of Brentwood College School will be looking as good as Chris or Melissa Bumstead.
