Ms Sue Whitney: Commitment and Service
As most of you know, Ms Sue Whitney is a Brentwood rowing coach, manages our swimming program and is often helping out in the Houses and around the school. What you may not know about Ms Whitney is that B.C. Field Hockey and Cowichan Field Hockey have just presented her with awards for her longtime service and commitment to the game.
Ms Whitney first started playing hockey 1954 – I am sure that’s a typo – it’s probably meant to be 1994.
She played on school, county, college, and club teams in England.
She later moved to Alberta where she revived the Edmonton ladies’ team, as well as playing on Team Alberta from 1972-1977 and for Canada in 1973.
After moving to the Cowichan Valley in 1987, she played on and coached the Cowichan ladies teams, Coached Cowichan District Secondary School, started the first indoor field hockey in Duncan and introduced the high school team to provincial competition.
She later revived the Mid-Island Rep under 16 and 18 teams and coached grade 4-6 elementary school teams.
Clearly this is a woman who is always looking for ways to give back – congratulations Ms. Sue Whitney – we are very lucky to have you here at Brentwood!
