Today, we know her as the friendly librarian who helps us find our favorite book, but you best believe it, she is a legend around campus. For 26 years of her life, Mrs Eileen Mais was the House Parent of Alexandra House. Beginning in 1993, until 2018, Mrs Mais was sure to hold the house to an exquisite standard while nurturing every girl like her own child.

Everything she has done to better the Brentwood community, and more specifically, the Alex girls, is unfathomable. I want you to imagine doing what she has done: living with 65 teenage girls for 26 years seems like a nightmare to most, but not to Mrs Mais. She absolutely adored her role as House Parent.

My roommate, Lauren K, Alex ‘22, describes her connection with Mrs Mais as one that is special and says, “I know Mrs Mais will always have my back no matter what, will cheer me on through life, and help me be the best version of myself.”

The fact that she lived with teenage girls for over 25 years is enough to give her more than a million thanks. Words can’t do justice to how much the Brentwood community appreciates Mrs Mais and her warm heart. No need to fret; her influence on us all doesn’t end on graduation day. She stays in touch with graduates via Facebook or texting and I can guarantee that each one is thankful for the messages.

Past student, Esther S, Alex ‘22 misses her greatly and says, “Mrs Mais was always like a mother to me and made me feel at home, even away from my home in Germany. She always brightened up our days and never failed to make us smile.”

Mrs Mais says that her favorite part of being the Houseparent in Alex was “Getting to know and spend time with the girls.”

I would like to thank Mrs Mais for the remarkable dedication she has shown towards Alex House and the Brentwood community for the past 29 years. I have never met a more charismatic, devoted, and warmhearted woman. Thank you, Maisy.
