Junior Boys Soccer
I believe it was the great Meatloaf who once crooned, “I want you, I need you, but there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you – but don’t feel sad: for two out of three ain’t bad.”
We wanted our local league title, and we took it, greedily. We wanted the ISA trophy, and beat St. George’s in the final 7-0: we beat them like a rented mule, like a dusty rug, like a hasty retreat. We wanted the Island title, won Pool A, and then sprayed Belmont’s goal in the final as if their net was on fire and only the rueful teams of missed chances could extinguish the flames. We finished second on the Island, no mean feat, and, when we got it right, made the beautiful game a comely prey to hunt in Mill Bay.
Mark my words, reclusive yearbook reader: these juniors will be talked about in the senior Provincial report in next year’s edition.
