ISA Hardcourt Silver

6 December 2013

On a cold and wet Friday afternoon last week, a group of boys set out toward St. Michaels University School for a chance to compete for ISA Gold. Without our violinist and starting point guard, Paul L, Sean M had to step into the starting position. Standing at 5’7.25” and 140 pounds of straight muscle, Sean quickly contributed on both ends of the floor and played some big minutes. Finding ourselves down in the first quarter, the team showed some grit. Skylar R and Kadon R, both coming off the bench, made three pointer after three pointer and were a large part of the win on Friday night against a strong Southridge team. This game really showed what Brentwood could do. We woke up bright and early on Saturday for a game that could lead us to the finals and one step closer to seeing those gold ISA medals around our necks. Back in the lineup, Paul L quickly contributed with his quick feet and lights-out shooting. Devin C, a rebounding machine, ran the floor well and came up with a big game as Woody L also found himself with some great success feeding passes inside. Wyatt M found himself with some minutes and used them well, noticeably showing some great hustle. A great team win with improvements all around moved us into the final against a top-three provincially ranked St. Michaels squad. The boys were focused in the locker room before the game, and came out strong. Aidan C and Matt G, perhaps the most try-hard players on our team, showed great perseverance as they pursued loose balls and crashed the boards with great intent. And let’s not forget Frank Z, a great teammate as he is always positive, keeping the boys hungry with his enthusiasm and effort on the court. A strong effort from the team in the second half showed that we could ball with this SMUS club, and we showed some excellent signs of improvement. Second place, although a disappointing result at the time, had the boys of Brentwood holding their heads high. We have a lot of work to do, and we’re starving for more.
