Into the Wind

11 December 2015

What a whirlwind this term has been! The Wind Ensemble has doubled in size this year and eighteen of the twenty talented musicians are brand new to the ensemble this year. We have a wide variety of backgrounds, but everyone has at least one common goal: really great music. Each musician brought his or her past experiences making the ensemble stronger both socially and musically. We’re doubling down now for our Concert for a Winter's Eve, where we will be performing "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "Christmas a La Big Band". In preparation for the concert, we have all worked hard on improving our scales, technique and articulation. We have even learned the basics of composing music using the "Breezin' Thru Theory" program. In planning for the new year, we have been working on a variety of pep band tunes that include "Seven Nation Army," "Happy," and "Uptown Funk," which we hope to play at some varsity games or other campus events. There are also plans in motion to attend a number of competitive music festivals in the spring, including a trip to Vancouver that should be a lot of fun. I am looking forward to a great year with the ensemble as everyone is showing a lot of spirit! Christopher C, Rogers '16, Wind Ensemble Captain
