Amanda M, a Grade 11 member of the Brentwood Senior Girls Field Hockey team, is also a member of the U18 Island High Performance Field Hockey team which won, for the second year in a row, gold at the recent U18 Super Series Provincial Tournament. This tournament brings together many of the top field hockey players in the province. All participating athletes are members of a regional training program and must obtain a beep test standard in order to attend. There are eight teams representing the Island, Lower Mainland, and Interior regions of the province.

This event is an opportunity for athletes to showcase their individual skills and tactical awareness.  In their opening pool game, the Island team was defeated 2-0 by a strong North/West Vancouver team. They rallied, gained some momentum, and won their next 2 games to place 2nd in their pool and advance to the semi-finals. In the crossover match, the girls defeated the #1 team from the other pool, the South East Crows, by a score of 3-1. This meant a repeat match up with North/West Vancouver.

The Island team pounced on their opponents quickly when Amanda scored in the first minute of play. Although the North West team battled back to tie the game, the island team kept attacking, and finished with a 3-2 win.

Congratulations Amanda!
