Careers Day
Every year on a special Saturday, in the hope that these presenters will help inspire our current students in their search for careers, Brentwood hosts an array of alumni and Brentwood parents in the annual Career Day. This year the group consisted of speakers in the fields of engineering, medicine, journalism, acting, law, advertising, accounting and photography.
First thing in the morning, both students and presenters alike gathered under the roof of the T. Gil Bunch Theatre. Mr. McCarthy introduced each presenter and before inviting students to attend their presentations, recounted a past misstep of Mr. Backer that helped to create a light and jovial atmosphere for the day.
During their presentations, the mentors inspired the students to pursue similar careers as well as to keep an open mind about the future. Many of the presenters emphasized that they had never planned to pursue their current careers. The personal and relaxed periods of enlightenment helped to solidify the goals of many of us. Presenters made themselves available after each session to those inquisitive students eager to learn more about their professional interests.
The opportunity to gain an understanding of different careers was well worth the time. Students and presenters came away feeling satisfied: the day was a success. Many thanks to Mr. Backer who arranged this excellent day and for allowing his embarrassment to kick start the fun.
