On January 19th, the Senior Ice Hockey team traveled eight hours through mountains and snowy conditions to play in the U18 Lillooet Hockey Tournament. With this road trip being the final one of the season, the boys and girls were exhilarated to travel together once again.

On the day we got to Lillooet we played their home team. After a long day of traveling, the team gave their all to earn our first win of the tournament. Sabrina, our team trainer, led our warmups and cool downs as we had an extremely busy schedule ahead of us.

The following day, we were up early to play another three full games. This is where, I believe, that the team showed the most resilience and passion. We all played for each other including our beloved Captain Ned B, Privett ‘23 who, unfortunately, couldn’t come along due to his daunting injury. The result of our hard work was four consecutive wins.

On the final day, we played our 5th and final round robin game and finished with a 4-2 win sending us to the finals. We persevered through to come out on top with a 4-2 win in the finals to take home our second Gold medal since Calgary.

Saturday, January 28th was another important day for both the girls and the boys hockey programs as we both took on Shawnigan in our Showcase games. Showcase Hockey is one of the most exhilarating events of the year as both teams bring their whole school to the stands to experience the excitement. The girls prevailed 7-0, but the Senior team lost 12-2.

The Seniors still have one more chance to compete against our rivals in the Ross Cup Tournament coming up in three more weeks. The team, including myself, will be working extremely hard in practices to not only defeat Shawnigan but win the Ross Cup.
