Braving the Cold: Brentwood Takes on Mount Washington
On January 30, 2023, Brentwood hit the slopes of Mount Washington for a ski day filled with laughter and excitement. The highly-anticipated trip offered a break from the classroom and allowed students to enjoy winter sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing.
The day started before dawn with transportation to the mountain, followed by fitting of necessary equipment before heading out onto the slopes.
For the whole day, students enjoyed skiing and snowboarding down the mountain, taking in the stunning views and challenging themselves on the sixty-or-so runs. During breaks from the exercise, students could warm up with hot drinks and food in the Alpine Lodge where Ella S, Alex ‘23 had the “Best mac and cheese of my life!”
Mount Washington is an approximately 2-hour drive north of Brentwood and is the perfect mountain for all levels of snow sports. The beginner students could take lessons or do laps on the bunny hill while the more advanced skiers could explore the mountain through the trees or even hit the terrain park.
Sophie H, Mack ‘23 states, “Winterlude was a perfect day to bond and create memories with classmates.”
The success of the ski day was largely due to the hard work and dedication of the organizer, Mr MacDonald (AKA Waldo), who stated: "Project management involves detailed planning and organization. Executing the event is the easy part." “Winterlude was a tremendous event that brought together 445 members of the Brentwood community.”
Unfortunately, not the entire Brentwood community could bask in the beauty of the British Columbian treasure of Mount Washington. Students in the musical, Mamma Mia, were hard at work rehearsing for the upcoming show which runs Feb. 27 to Mar. 4.
Despite some icy conditions, everyone made it back safe from Winterlude ‘23 – a day of adventure, camaraderie, and joy.
